Photosynthesis:
It is the process by which autotrophs are able to synthesise their own food.
Plants use simple inorganic substances such as carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to produce complex organic substances such as glucose and starch.
It is termed as photosynthesis because it can only occur in the presence of sunlight.
The
chlorophyll
pigment in plants help in trapping the energy from the sun.
Glucose, Oxygen and water are the products formed during photosynthesis.
Significance of photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis serves as a source of energy for all the living organisms and plants are the primary producers in any food chain.
Through photosynthesis, plants also purify air by taking in carbon dioxide and giving out oxygen.
