Question

Write 'two statements' of first law of thermodynamics.

Open in App
Solution

The first law of thermodynamics simply states that :
(a) Energy can neither be created nor destroyed (Law of conservation of energy).
(b) Total energy of an isolated system is constant.
Mathematically it can be stated that, the change in internal energy of a system is equal to the heat added to the system plus the amount of work done on the system by the surroundings.
ΔU=q+w
where, ΔU= Change in internal energy
q= Heat added to the system
w= Work done on the system
