Question

(x+2y)2-4 (2x-y)2

Open in App
Solution

This must be done by simple expansion.

You must know two important identities to solve this.

1)(a+b)²=a²+2ab+b²
2)(a-b)²=a²-2ab+b²

This question has two parts

1)(x+2y)²=x²+4xy+4y²
Here a =x and b=2y

2)(2x-y)²=4x²-4xy+y²
Here a=2x and b=y

So (x+2y)-4(2x-y)²=
x²+4xy+4y²-16x²+16xy-4y²
=20xy-15x²
