X and Y are two elements which form X2Y3 and XY2 molecules. If 0.15 mole of X2Y3 and XY2 weighs 15.9 g and 9.3 g respectively. What are the atomic mass of X and Y.
X and Y are 26 and 18 respectively
Let at mass of X and Y be a and b respectively
Therefore, Molecular mass of X2Y3 = 2a + 3b
And Molecular mass of XY2 = a + 2b
Therefore, (2a + 3b) x 0.15 = 15.9
And (a + 2b) x 0.15 = 9.3
So, a and b is equal to 26 and 18 i.e atomic mass of X and Y are 26 and 18 respectively.
