It was found at proximity to the Dholavira village in the Bhachau taluka, 140 km away from Bhuj. The Archaeological Department of Gujarat first surveyed the ruins and was then handed over to a team headed by Ravindra Singh Bisht, of India's Archaeological Survey, for further excavations in 1990. These excavations' findings show that this town also had the concept of a citadel and a lower town. The walls were made using clay, stone and bricks, and were also painted in white. The city had walls around it to fortify it.
