Since two differrent layers are formed, the possible adulterant should sink and respective food item should float.
Rava and iron filings settle at the bottom and doesn't form different layers when mixed with water. Metanil yellow and turmeric are similar in size and colour, hence their adulteration can't be tested with water. Thus, only chilli powder (being lighter) and brick dust (being heavier) goes in par with the question statement.
