Solution

Let the weight of the vacant bucket = x kg Weight of material which is filled to the full capacity of the bucket =y kg According to the question, x+38y=10x=10-38y ...(1) x+35y=14.5 ...(2)Substituting eq (1) in eq(2), we get: 10-38y+35y=14.535y-38y=4.524y-15y40=4.59y40=4.5y=4.5×409y=20 kgSubstituting y=20 in eq (1), x=10-38×20x=2.5 kgTherefore, the weight of bucket when it is filled to its full capacity=20 kg+2.5 kg=22.5 kg.
