(xii) Points A and B are 70 km apart on a highway. A car starts from A and another car starts from B at the same time. If they travel in the same direction, they meet in 7 hours, but if they travel towards each other they meet in one hour. What are their speeds?

Let the speed of car that starts from point A be vA km/h
and the speed of car that starts from point B is vB km/h
According to the question , vA-vB ×7=707vA-7vB =70 ...(1) vA+vB ×1=70vA+vB=70 vA =70-vB .... (2) Substituting eq (2) in eq (1) we get , 770-vB-7vB =70490-7vB-7vB=7014vB=420vB=30 km/hvA=70-30km/h=40 km/hHence, the speed of the car that starts from the point A is 40 km/h& speed of the car that starts from point B is 30 km/h
