Given equation is:
$y = 3 x - 2$
Comparing this equation with slope intercept form of line
$y = m x + b$
Slope, m = 3
Intercept = -2

Substitute $x = 1$ in $y = 3 x - 2$
$\Rightarrow y = 3 \times 1 - 2$
$\Rightarrow y = 1$

Now, Substitute $y = 4$ in the equation $y = 3 x - 2$
We get
$\Rightarrow 4 = 3 x - 2$
Adding $2$ on both sides
$\Rightarrow 4 + 2 = 3 x - 2 + 2$
$\Rightarrow 6 = 3 x$
Dividing by $3$ on both sides
$\Rightarrow x = 2$
