The Environment Club of Resident's Pride colony organized a week long campaign 'Say No To Polythene Bags' to create awareness in the localities adjoining the colony about the hazards of polythene bags. Besides the members of the Club 200 other volunteers also took part in the campaign which was flagged off by the Chairman of the Society, Mr. Tripathi who distributed paper bags among some of the shopkeepers of the area taking from them polythene bags in exchange. The school going children of the colony took paper bags to all houses of the area and did the same while telling the residents about the ill effects of use of polythene bags. Many activities like a debate on the topic poster making competition, Ad Mad show etc. were organized for the residents during the week to spread awareness. The winners were rewarded with wicker baskets and canvas bags. On the closing day all children, residents and important people of the neighbourhood took a pledge to stop polythene bags in their daily lives and also stop others from doing so.The campaign resulted in making the locality a polythene free zone. A similar drive is planned to be held again in the month of October so as to reinforce the concern and take it to a wider area.
