You are given four pulleys and three strings. Draw a neat and labelled diagram to use them so as to obtain a maximum mechanial advantage equal to 8. In your diagram mark the directions of load L, effort E and tension in each strand.

What assumptions have you made to obtain the required mechanical advantage ?

In above case pulley A distribute load N newton into two equal parts as N/2.
Further pulley B splits it into two equal N/4 and C splits it to N/8.

Thus,

Thus to get mechanical advantage of 8 with 4 pulleys and 3 strings above fig shows the best combination
