Question

You are given kerosene glycerine and water so in which of these light travels fastest and in which it bends more towards normal

Open in App
Solution

The refrative index of kerosine is 1.44, that of glycerine is 1.474 and that of water is 1.33. Clearly water having lower refrative index 1.33, is optically rarer than kerosine and glycerine. Therefore light travels fastest in water because of its lower optical density and it bends in glycerine more towards normal bcause of its higher refractive index.
