Solution

a)

The left half of the figure acts as NOR Gate, while right half as NOT Gate.

The output of the NOR Gate is given as,

Y 1 = A+B ¯ (1)

This is the input for the NOT Gate.

The output of a NOR Gate for any input Z is given as,

Y= Z ¯ (2)

By substituting the value of equation (1) in equation (2), we get

Y= A+B ¯ ¯ =A+B

Thus, the output of the given circuit is A+B acts as OR GATE.

b)

the given circuit is,

The output of two NOT Gates are A ¯ and B ¯ respectively.

These outputs are fed through the NOR Gate.

The output of the circuit is given as,

Y= A ¯ + B ¯ ¯ = A ¯ ¯ B ¯ ¯ =AB

Thus, the output of the given circuit is AB and it acts as AND gate.
