Solution

Immiscible liquids: Immiscible liquids are liquids that do not mix completely. Layer formation can be seen in the mixture in which denser liquid will settle at the bottom and lighter liquid will float above the surface of the mixture.

  • Carbon tetrachloride and water are both immiscible liquids.
  • To separate the constituents of the mixture separating funnel will be used.
  • These immiscible liquids can be separated based on the density gradient. They form two different layers.
  • Carbon tetrachloride is having more density than water so carbon tetrachloride forms the lower layer and water being less denser forms the upper layer.
