Let the distance between posters be $x\text{feet}$.

According to the diagram
$x+x+x+4+4=14$
$\Rightarrow 3x+8=14$

Subtracting by $8$ on both side:
$\Rightarrow 3x+8-8=14-8$
$\Rightarrow 3x=6$

Dividing by $3$, on both sides:
$\Rightarrow \frac{3x}{3}=\frac{6}{3}$
$\Rightarrow x=2$ feet
