2. Suspend a magnet and iron from a vertical pole and observe them carefully when they come to rest.
3. A magnet will suspend freely and will rest in a North-South direction i.e in the direction of Earth's geographical poles.
4. Iron will come to rest in any direction.
5. This way can distinguish between a piece of iron and a magnet.
