You have an eight-faced die. In this die, one of the faces contains '1', two faces contain '2', three faces contain '3' and other faces contain '4' and '5' respectively. What is the probability of getting '2' when the die is rolled? (All outcomes are equally likely).
There are two faces that contain 2. Had it been on only one of the faces, the probability of getting a 2 would have been 18.
Probability of an event A = Number of sample points in event ANumber of sample points in sample spaces
Now, the total number of outcomes = 8
The number of desired outcomes i.e. getting a 2 = 2
∴ Probability of getting a two when the die is rolled = 28 = 14
