Weather stations around the world make daily measurements of temperatures, rainfall, wind speeds and directions, air pressures and other weather features with various instruments. Rainfall is measured by an instrument called rain gauge. Wind speed is measured by anemometers. The Meteorological Department collects data on various weather elements and prepares a weather report in which all the weather information is plotted on the maps. Using these maps, weather forecasters predict the weather reasonably and accurately which is then transmitted on to the radio and television.
