Question

You release two objects A and B from the same height (H) of an inclined plane. You see that object A goes larger distance than the object B before coming to rest. The objects have equal weights and their outer surfaces are equally polished. Which of the following options can be a possible case?

Solution

The correct option is C Object A is of spherical shape and object B is of rectangular box shape
Object A goes farther distance than object B. This means frictional force on object A is lesser than the object B. All the parameters(weights and roughness) on which frictional force depends are same for both the objects. As rolling friction is lesser than the sliding friction, so we can say that rolling friction acts on object A and sliding friction acts on objects B. So object A is of spherical shape and object B is of rectangular box shape.
