Drying of clothes is much faster when the rate of evaporation is more.
Following measures can increase the rate of evaporation:
(a) Evaporation is a surface phenomenon i.e. if the surface area is increased the rate of evaporation also increases. Hence the clothes dry faster by spreading them.
(b) An increase in temperature by putting the shirt under the sun increases the rate of evaporation. As the temperature increases, the particles gain enough kinetic energy to go to its vapour state.
(c) An Increase in the wind speed by spreading it under the fan increases the rate of evaporation. With the increase in wind speed, the water vapour particles move along the wind. As a result, the water vapour in the surrounding decreases.
