Zinc metal reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid to form zinc chloride and liberate hydrogen gas

Zinc is more reactive than hydrogen so placed above hydrogen in the reactivity series. Hence, it reacts with dilute HCl with the formation of metal salt and evolution of hydrogen gas takes place.
Zn (s) + 2HCl (aq) → ZnCl2(aq) + H2 (↑)
