The formula used to calculate the temperature of the mixture in equilibrium is:

If M1 mass of liquid at T1°C is mixed with M2 mass of liquid at T2°C.

Then the temperature of the mixture in equilibrium is(M1×T1)+(M2×T2)(M1+M2).

50g(M1)of water is mixed with 50g(M2) of water at 40°C(T2°C). The temperature of the mixture in equilibrium is(50×20)+(50×40)(50+50)=50×(20+40)(100)=20+402=602=30°C.
