Let the total number of birds in the bag will be $x$
As given in the question:

$N u m b e r o f s p a r r o w s = x - 6 N u m b e r o f p i g e o n s = x - 6 N u m b e r o f d u c k s = x - 6$
Therefore,
$T h e t o t a l n u m b e r o f b i r d s = N u m b e r o f s p a r r o w s + N u m b e r o f p i g e o n s + N u m b e r o f d u c k s$
$x = (x - 6) + (x - 6) + (x - 6) x = 3 x - 18$ (By removing bracket)
$x - 3 x = - 18$ (By transposing $3 x$ from R.H.S to L.H.S)
$- 2 x = - 18$ (Cancel $(-)$ sign both sides)
$2 x = 18 x = 9$
Hence the total number of birds in the bags will be $9$ .
