MS-DOS is one of the oldest and widely used operating systems. DOS was the first operating system used by IBM-compatible computers.  Later compatible systems from other manufacturers include DR DOS, ROM-DOS, PTS-DOS, and Free DOS. MS-DOS dominated the IBM PC compatible market between 1981 and 1995.
