A pie has to be divided amongst a few kids. Puneet gets $\frac{2}{7}th$ portion of the pie and Sheela gets $\frac{5}{8}th$portion of the pie. Who amongst the two gets a lesser share?

Given

The portion of the pie Puneet gets $=\frac{2}{7}$

The portion of the pie Sheela gets $=\frac{5}{8}$

To find who gets a lesser share we have to compare $\frac{2}{7}$ and $\frac{5}{8}$

These are unlike fractions. We have to convert them to like fractions and then compare.

LCM of $7,8=56$

$\frac{2}{7}=\frac{2\times 8}{7\times 8}=\frac{16}{56}$

$\frac{5}{8}=\frac{5\times 8}{8\times 8}=\frac{40}{64}$

$$\begin{gathered} \because 16\hspace{0.17em}<40 \\ \Rightarrow \frac{16}{40}<\frac{40}{64} \end{gathered}$$

Hence, Puneet gets the lesser share.
