Alkaline earth metals include six elements.
Group 2 elements
Group 2 elements are known as alkaline earth metals because their oxides are alkaline in nature, and these oxides remain unaffected by heat or fire and existed on earth.
The most abundant of the alkaline earth metals on Earth is calcium which is the fifth most abundant element in the Earth’s crust.
Here is the list in order:
- Calcium.
- Magnesium.
- Barium.
- Strontium.
- Beryllium.
- Radium.
Radium They are called alkaline earth metals because they form alkaline solutions, hydroxides when they react with water. The term Alkaline means that the solution has a pH greater than seven and is basic. Thus, alkaline earth metals form fundamental solutions and are excellent for reducing agents.
