# An object is placed at a distance of 10 cm from a convex mirror of focal length 15 cm. Find the position and nature of the image.

Given that

u= -10 cm

f= 15 cm

Find out

We need to find v

Formula

We know the formula

1/f = 1/v + 1/u

Therefore, 1/v = 1/f – 1/u

Substituting the known values in the above equation we get,

1/v = 1/15 – (-1/10)

1/v= 1/15 + 1/10

1/v = (2 + 3)/30 (LCM)

Hence

v = 5/30

v = 6cm

The image is formed behind the mirror and it is virtual.

## The nature of the image formed

• When the v is positive, the image is formed inside the mirror, and in front of the mirror when the v is negative.
• This indicates that the image is produced within the mirror at a distance of 6cm from the pole of the mirror in this scenario.
• When v is positive, the resulting image is virtual; when v is negative, the resulting image is real.
