Solution

The correct option is A

Gradually Increases

Explanation for the correct answer:-

Option (A) Gradually Increases

  • Osmosis is the spontaneous net movement of the solvent molecules through a semi-permeable membrane into the region where there is a high solute concentration.
  • This flow is in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides.
  • This osmosis results in the gradual increase of the volume of the concentrated solution.
  • The solvent particles are small and thus can very easily pass through these holes, on the other hand, solute particles are larger and thus cannot pass through.
  • When the semipermeable membrane separates a solution from the pure solvent, the solvent molecules move back and forth through the membrane.
  • But this does not happen in equal numbers.
  • More molecules move from the pure solvent into the solution than from the solution into the solvent which results in an increase in the volume of the solution.
  • Hence it is the correct option.

Therefore, option (A) Gradually Increases is the correct answer.
