Question

At equilibrium what happens to the cell potential?

Open in App
Solution

Cell potential:

  1. At equilibrium, the voltage falls to zero and the current ceases to flow. (An equilibrium battery is a dead battery.)
  2. The potential increases when we make a change to the system that pushes it further away from equilibrium.
  3. The potential decreases if we make a change that pushes the system toward equilibrium.
