Question

Capacitance depends on which parameters?

Open in App
Solution

Capacitors:

  1. The amount of separated electric charge that can be stored on an electric conductor (or set of conductors) per unit change in electrical potential is measured by capacitance.
  2. Capacitors are energy-storage devices that come in a variety of forms and sizes.
  3. The SI unit of capacitance is farad.

Parameters of capacitance:

  1. The capacitance of a capacitor is the ability to store charge.
  2. The capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor is given by C=ε0Ad.
  3. If a dielectric constant of K is filled between the plates. C=kε0Ad

Where,

A denotes plate area.

d denotes plate separation.

k is dielectric constant..

The dielectric constant of the substance separating the plates determines the capacitance.

The parameters on which the capacitance depends are area of plates, the distance between them and the dielectric constant of the medium between plates.
