  1. Carbon dioxide is a necessary element of photosynthesis in plants.
  2. It is used in optimum amount by plants to make their food.
  3. But a high concentration of carbon dioxide can damage the plant.
  4. High concentration of carbon dioxide is not only harmful to plants but also to environment.
  5. Carbon dioxide is considered as a greenhouse gas. Because, its excessive amount in atmosphere lead to global warming.
  6. The heat entering the earth's atmosphere from sun is trapped by carbon dioxide hence leading to rise in temperature.
  7. Hence its excessive amount is considered as harmful to environment.
  8. So, it is considered as a pollutant.

Therefore carbon dioxide is considered as harmful because it is a green house gas.
