CCl4 cannot be used as an insecticide.
What are the uses of CCl4?
Carbon tetrachloride was first prepared in 1839. German-born French scientist Henri Victor Regnault discovered it during his work with ether/chlorine reactions.
- Carbon tetrachloride is used for dry cleaning, degreasing metals, fumigating, manufacturing refrigerants and aerosol propellants.
- It is also used in fire extinguishers.
- It is used as a component in the manufacture of lava lamps.
- In NMR spectroscopy.
- CCl4 acts as a solvent that is actually used for the smooth conduct of the reaction.
