Kharif crops:

  1. Kharif crops are sown at the beginning of the first monsoon rains (around early May) and are called monsoon/ autumn crops.
  2. They require hot weather and a huge amount of water to grow.
  3. Examples- Maize, paddy, groundnut, cotton.

Rabi crops:

  1. Rabi crops are sown after the monsoon rains (around mid-November) and are called winter crops.
  2. They require a warm climate for germination and a cold climate to grow.
  3. Examples- Mustard, pea, wheat, gram.
