Question

The coefficient of mutual induction is the ratio of___________.

Open in App
Solution

Coefficient of mutual induction:

  1. The coefficient of mutual induction is defined as the ratio of e.m.f. induced in the secondary coil to the rate of change of current in the primary coil.
  2. It is a measure of induction between two circuits.
  3. It is the ratio of an electromotive force in one circuit to the corresponding change in current in the neighboring circuit.
  4. It is usually measured in henries.

Mathematical representation:

M=εemfdIdt

Here,

M is the magnetic inductance.

ε is the EMF induced into the other coil.

dIdt is the rate of change of current in the given coil.

Hence, the coefficient of mutual induction is the ratio of induced EMF in secondary coil to rate of change of current in the primary coil.
