Question

Current provided by a battery is maximum when?

Open in App
Solution

Current provided by a battery:

  1. According to Ohm's Law, the current is usually determined as the ratio of total voltage provided in a circuit to the total resistance generated by the circuit. This same total resistance comprises both the internal and external resistance of the battery.
  2. Resistance is inversely related to current at constant voltage, the resistance must be as low as possible for maximum current.
  3. To provide maximum current the total resistance should be minimum (i.e., the addition of internal resistance and external resistance )

Therefore, current provided by a battery is maximum when internal resistance is equal to external resistance.
