The structure of the earth can be divided into 3 parts – crust, mantle, and core. Crust is the outermost layer of the earth. Mantle, and core are the interior parts of the earth.

Mantle

  • The layer of the earth below the crust is called the mantle.
  • The mantle layer goes on till a depth of 2,900 Km, it extends from Moho’s Discontinuity.
  • Asthenosphere is known as the upper portion of the mantle.
  • Asthenosphere extends up to 400 Km.

Core

  • There are two different layers in the core.
  • The inner core is in the solid state.
  • The outer core is in the liquid state.
  • At the depth of 2,900 Km inside the interior of the earth is the mantle-core boundary.
