Question

Draw a diagram to show the magnetic field lines around a bar magnet.

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

  1. The region around a magnet where the magnetic force is detectable is termed the magnetic field.
  2. The imaginary lines representing the magnetic field, and showing the direction of magnetic force are termed magnetic field lines.
  3. Magnetic field lines in a bar magnet start from the north pole and end at the south pole.
  4. The direction of the magnetic field is tangential to the field line at all points in space.
  5. The field lines do not intersect each other. The field lines form closed loops. that is they are continuous.
  6. The orientation of field lines within the magnet is from the south pole to the north pole. As a result, magnetic field lines constitute closed curves. The measure of proximity of the field lines indicates the relative intensity of the magnetic field.
Why is the direction of magnetic field lines from South to North inside a magnet? Why is it from North to South outside of a magnet? - Quora
