Solution

Step 1. Draw a triangle ABC with sides AB=3cm,BC=3.5cm,andAC=3.9cm.

Now, add any two sides sayABandBC of the triangle ABC:

AB+BC=3+3.5=6.5cm>AC

Step 2. Draw a triangle ABC with sides AB=3cm,BC=4cm,andAC=5cm.

Now, add the other two sidessayABandBC of the ABC:

AB+BC=3+4=7cm>AC

Step 3. Draw a triangle ABC with sides AB=2.5cm,BC=2.5cm,andAC=2.5cm.

Now, add any two sidessayABandBC say of the ABC:

AB+BC=2.5+2.5=5cm>AC

Step 4. Draw a triangle ABC with sides AB=3cm,BC=3.5cm,andAC=4cm.

Now, add any two sidessayABandBC of the ABC.

AB+BC=3+3.5=6.5cm>AC

Step 5. Draw a triangle ABC with sides AB=2cm,BC=4cm,andAC=4.5cm.

Add any two sidessayABandBC of the triangle ABC:

AB+BC=2+4=6cm>AC

It is observed that in each case, the sum of the lengths of any two sides is greater than the third side.

Hence, the sum of the lengths of any two sides can never be less than the third side.
