Question

Escape velocity does not depend on ________ .

Open in App
Solution

Escape velocity:

  1. Escape velocity is the velocity required for a body to escape from a gravitational centre of attraction without further acceleration.
  2. The formula of escape velocity can be written as,

v=2GMr

Here, G is the universal gravitational constant, M is the mass of the celestial object and r is the distance from the object to the centre of mass of the body to be escaped.

3. The escape velocity is 11.2 kilometres per second for the earth.

Hence, escape velocity does not depend on the mass of the test body.
