$98^{2}$ can be written as ${(90 + 8)}^{2}$
We know that
${(a + b)}^{2} = a^{2} + b^{2} + 2 a b$
$∴ {(90 + 8)}^{2} = 90^{2} + 8^{2} + 2 (90) (8) = 8100 + 64 + 1440 = 9604$
Hence, the value of $98^{2}$ is $9604$ .
