Solution

Artificial methods of vegetative propagation:

  1. Vegetative propagation is referred to as an asexual method of reproduction.
  2. As plant cells are totipotent, they can develop into the entire plant, this method of asexual reproduction is referred to as Vegetative propagation.
  3. There are two types of Vegetative propagation, Natural method, and Artificial methods.
  4. Artificial methods are those methods that are carried by man to propagate plants.
  5. Tissue culture, Cutting, Layering, and Grafting are types of Artificial methods of vegetative propagation.

Cutting:

  1. Cutting is referred to as a method of cutting a stem of a plant with nodes and internodes intact and growing it as an individual plant.
  2. By cutting, more plants are propagated.
  3. For Example, the Rose plant is commonly propagated by cutting.

Layering:

  1. Layering is a method of bending a stem of a plant down to the ground and developing it into an entire plant by growing roots in a bent area.
  2. This soil-covered bent area is referred to as a layer.
  3. For example, Boxwood, honeysuckle, etc.

Grafting:

  1. Grafting is a method of joining two different plants and growing them as one.
  2. It is done to develop new varieties.
  3. For example, commonly it is carried out in Mango

Tissue culture:

  1. Tissue culture is a method of growing an entire plant from plant tissues under a controlled environment in the laboratory.
  2. Tissue culture is used to develop plants with higher vigor.
  3. Better yielding and disease-resistant varieties are grown through tissue culture.
  4. Tissue culturing is commonly done in Banana plants.
