Aqua regia

  1. Aqua regia is a Latin phrase that means king's water.
  2. Aqua regia or nitro-hydrochloric acid is a highly corrosive mixture of acids. It is a fuming yellow or red solution.
  3. Aqua regia is primarily used to produce Chloroauric acid
  4. Aqua regia is used to dissolve gold and platinum.

Composition of Aqua regia

  1. Aqua regia is formed by mixing concentrated Nitric acid (HNO3) and concentrated Hydrochloric acid (HCl).
  2. The mixing should be in proportion 1:3 according to the volume.
  3. It is a reddish-orange or yellowish-orange fuming liquid.

Therefore, Aqua regia is formed by mixing concentrated Nitric acid and concentrated Hydrochloric acid in the volume of 1:3 ratio.
