Solution

Step 1: Define the composite function

  1. When two or more functions are combined together in a single function, the process is known as the composition of function.
  2. The considered single function is known as the composite function.
  3. Let, fx and gx be two individual functions, then fgx is a composite function, where x is the input of gx and gx is the input of the function fx, it can be also denoted by, fgx.

Step 2: Example of a composite function

Let us consider two individual functions, fx=22x+3 and gx=x2+1.

Then the composite function fgx can be given by,

fgx=fx2+1fgx=22x2+1+3fgx=22x2+2+3fgx=22x2+5

Therefore, the composite function can be given by, f(gx)=22x2+5.
