Explain the process of testing the presence of starch in leaves?

The following experiment is performed to test the presence of starch in leaves:

  • Take a fresh leaf
  • Boil the leaf so that the cells in leaves gets soft
  • Dip the boiled leaf in iodine solution
  • On addition of iodine if the leaf changes its colour to blue-black then it shows the presence of starch in the leaves
