Solution

Role of forest in maintaining the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere:

  1. A large number of trees and plants come together to form a forest, these plants undergo a process called photosynthesis for the formation of food, and during this process, they release oxygen as a byproduct, also they utilize carbon dioxide produced by animals during the respiration.
  2. Since they play a very vital role in maintaining the oxygen and carbon dioxide level of the atmosphere they are called as the green lungs of the earth.
  3. This oxygen produced by plants is again utilised by animals during respiration and they exhale out carbon dioxide which again goes back to the plants and hence the cycle continues.
  4. Not only that, they also play a very important role in maintaining the clouds, humidity, climate stability and the entire air quality of the earth.
