Factorise: x4+x2+1

Open in App
Solution

Factorize the polynomial

Given: x4+x2+1

adding and subtracting x2to the polynomial

=x4+x2+1+x2-x2=x4+2x2+1-x2=x22+2×x2×1+(1)2-x2

using the identity (a+b)2=a2+b2+2ab

=(x2+1)2-x2

Using the identity a2-b2=(a-b)(a+b)

=(x2+1-x)(x2+1+x)

Hence, the factorized form of the polynomial x4+x2+1 is (x2+1-x)(x2+1+x).
