Find the area of quadrilateral ABCD in which AB=3cm, BC=4cm, CD=4cm, DA=5cmand AC=5cm

Open in App
Solution

Find the area of given quadrilateral

Given, a quadrilateral ABCD,

For ΔABCa = 4 cmb = 5 cmc = 3 cm∵ a2 + c2 = b2
∴ ΔABC is righ

Here, for ABC

AB=3cm

BC=4cm

AC=5cm

The other side of the quadrilateral is

CD=4cm and DA=5cm

To find the area of quadrilateral ABCD, we can add the areas of ABC and ACD.

So,

AreaofABC=12×Base×Height=12×AB×BC=12×3×4=6cm2

Now, for ACD

AC=5cm

CD=4cm

DA=5cm

Therefore, semi perimeter S IS

S=4+5+52=7cm

Area of triangle ACD

=S(S-AC)(S-CD)(S-DA)=7(7-5)(7-4)(7-5)=221=2×4.6Approx=9.2cm2Approx

So, the area of quadrilateral will be,

Areaofquadrilateral=ABC+ACD=6+9.2=15.2cm2

Hence, the area of quadrilateral is 15.2cm2
