Question

Find the area of a rhombus if its vertices are 3,0, 4,5, -1,4 and -2,-1 taken in order. [Hint:AreaofRhombus=ProductofDiagonals2]

Solution

Step 1: Find the diagonals

Let assume A(3,0),B(4,5),C(-1,4) and D-2,-1 are the vertices of the rhombus ABCD, taken in order.

Length of the diagonals

AC=3--12+0-42=42+42=42 [ Distance formula =(x2-x1)2+(y2-y1)2]

BD=4--22+5--12=62+62=72=62

Step 2: Find the area of the Rhombus

AreaofRhombus=ProductofDiagonals2=AC×BD2=42×622=24sq.units

Hence, the area of the Rhombus is 24sq.units
