Question

Find the diagonal of a rectangle whose length is 35cm and breadth is 12cm.

Open in App
Solution

Compute the diagonal:

Assume PQRS be a rectangle whose length is PQ=35cm and breadth is QR=12cm.

In a rectangle, all the angles are taken as 90 degrees.

The rectangle PQRS, PR can be considered diagonal.

Using the formula of the Pythagoras theorem, we can write that

(PQ)2+(QR)2=(PR)2(35)2+(12)2=(PR)21225+144=(PR)2

That is

PR2=1369PR=37

Hence, the diagonal of a rectangle whose length is 35cm and breadth is 12cm is 37cm.
