Question

Find the radius of a circle whose circumference is equal to the sum of the circumferences of two circles of radii 15cm and 18cm.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Define the problem

Radius of first circle, r1=15cm

Radius of second circle, r2=18cm

Let R be the radius of the bigger circle.

Step 2: Compute the radius of the bigger circle

The formula for finding the circumference of a circle is given as,

C=2πr

Where, C is the circumference and r is the radius of the circle.

Thus,

2πR=2πr1+2πr22πR=2π·15+2π·182πR=2π(15+18)R=15+18R=33cm

Therefore, the radius of the bigger circle is 33cm.
